The North Dakota Security Council reminds swimmers of important safety measures

It is important to take safety precautions before getting your feet wet.

North Dakota Safety Council’s John Woutat says drowning can happen when it’s least expected – and can even be silent.

For this reason, it is important to keep a close eye on children, as they are most susceptible to water, especially when they cannot swim.

Woutat also says emergency preparedness and wearing life jackets can prevent a disaster.

“There is a lot of beatings and shouting. It doesn’t always happen that way. This person in particular gets water in their airways. The initial insertion of water robs them of the ability to speak. It robs them of the ability to scream, ”said Woutat.

Woutat also says that the risk of drowning in North Dakota is year-round, especially during the winter months for ice fishermen and hunters.
