DOWNERS GROVE – To help communities get vaccinated, a move sponsored by State Senator Ann Gillespie of Arlington Heights to increase Medicaid vaccination reimbursement rates and expand coverage was signed into law today.
“As communities prepare for a safe reopening this summer, it is critical to make sure everyone is vaccinated,” said Gillespie. “This measure ensures that families using Medicaid have equal access to vaccines.”
The new law increases Medicaid’s reimbursement rates for vaccinations for children under the age of 21, as well as for dental services and mental health, marriage and family counseling.
The move also adds chiropractic treatment, post-kidney transplant management, smoking cessation counseling, and peer support services to veterans to the list of services covered by the Illinois Medicaid program. It also requires the Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) to provide more social services to elderly residents.
“Expanding Medicaid coverage will improve health outcomes in the communities where it is most needed,” said Gillespie. “By improving provider networks and providing essential services, working families across the state can get the care they need to keep themselves and their communities healthy.”
Senate Bill 2294 takes effect immediately.
