RED SEA (June 30, 2021) – The guided missile frigate ENS Taba (FFG 916) of the Egyptian Navy and the Carrier Strike Group Dwight D. Eisenhower (IKE CSG) conducted a passex exercise in the Red Sea from June 29 to 30.
A PASSEX is an exercise in which multiple ships operate in close proximity to practice joint developments to improve knowledge, navigational skills and interoperability.
“Our strike group’s transit through the Red Sea with the Egyptian Navy is a great example of our continued commitment to regional partners,” said Rear Adm. Scott F. Robertson, Commander of Carrier Strike Group 2. “We look forward to future opportunities with ours Egyptian colleagues to build trust, cooperation and mutual respect. PASSEX began with Taba, the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) and the guided missile cruiser USS Vella Gulf (CG 72) conducting division tactics and maneuvers in formation, strengthening crews’ skills to work together and improve ship handling Competencies.
The IKE CSG is deployed in the area of operations of the 5th Fleet to support naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the central region and to connect the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic bottlenecks.
